FOCUS AREAS

VAST is currently focusing on developing projects within advanced Biofuels

Heavy transportation, including marine, rail, and aviation, heavily relies
on fossil fuels like diesel and petroleum products. Marine shipping
consumes approximately 330 million tonnes of bunker fuel annually,
projected to reach USD 165 billion by 2030. Rail transportation uses
around 50 million tonnes of diesel, and aviation consumes roughly
280 million tonnes of jet fuel per year.

While there is strong political momentum to reduce fossil fuel
consumption and adopt sustainable propulsion, heavy transport is
less likely to transition to electric solutions like lighter transport sectors. Heavy transport will continue to depend on high-energy-
density fuels that integrate with existing supply chains.

Advanced biofuels are expected to play a crucial role in reducing the
carbon intensity of heavy transport for decades, with a growing
demand for more cost-efficient production methods.

SoFaTM is an advanced, next-generation technology for
producing biofuels and biochemicals, built on 30 years of
innovation in biofuel development. It integrates biomass
liquefaction with electrofuel production, maximizing the use of
biomass carbon and significantly improving energy efficiency
with a minimal carbon footprint.

SoFaTM achieves high conversion rates of woody biomass into
energy-dense biofuels by converting all organic carbon,
including lignin, into biocrude. Each 1,000 kg of biomass
feedstock can yield up to 600 kg of biocrude. The process
operates under mild conditions, which lowers capital
expenditure (CAPEX) and boosts overall efficiency, resulting in
attractive plant economics.

VAST is committed to sustainability and meets the rigorous
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria that drive
the green energy transition. Life Cycle Analysis and stakeholder
transparency are core to the company’s approach.

The SoFaTM technology is protected by a robust intellectual
property portfolio, consisting of six patent families, with several
patents already granted both nationally and internationally.
